As a mama and photographer, I feel ya when you say it’s hard to dress your entire family for your family portraits! Not only do you have to get yourself cute, but chances are you have tiny little humans to think about as well!
Im giving you ALL the details on how to style you and your family for your fall mini sessions! Below are complimentary color schemes, what stores to look at, outfits ideas and where to go last minute shopping! It’s ALL right here for you!!
COMPLIEMENTARY COLOR SCHEMES
Let’s start by picking a color scheme that is pretty, fall appropriate, and most importantly, easy to shop for! Here are my top SEVEN color schemes that I recommend for fall! These can be easily dressed up or made to look cute and comfy for your entire family!
This palette has a traditional or antique tone to it. It’s warm and fun for families with little boys and girls who don’t want the traditional fall colors! This is one of my FAVORITES!
Yellow is a traditionally considered a happy hue. Paired with some deep and bright reds, oranges and a soft beige, it will make your family photos pop for sure!
These are subdued tones drawn from a warm sundown. This is perfect for the fall!
This combination is the CUTEST for fall! With all the different hues, it is perfect for larger families!
This is a warm and rosy palette made up of a mix of fruity neutral tones and darker more intense colors. It’s warm and inviting which makes it so pretty for fall!
This is a rustic combination of brown and blue based tones. It has endless possibilities, but will look great with the fall background!
This one is one of my favorites! These tones are for the families who last minute can’t find something to wear! It’s easy to match and jeans are totally acceptable!
Outfit Ideas
This part ( at least for me ) is the hardest! What will look best with what? Once you have your color scheme, grab YOUR outfit first! Yep mom, I’m looking at you! Or if it’s just you and your man, still grab your outfit first!! Work everyone else’s outfit around yours! WHY? That sounds so selfish. It is. BUT trust me, if you feel comfortable and confident in the outfit YOU love, your session will look and feel SO much better! SO grab that dress that makes you feel like a million bucks and go from there!
Here are my top five favorite fall looks! A few are more dressy, and some are more dressed down! Pick what YOU like! Keep in mind your location! If you’re hiking up a mountain or going where there might be some mud, you are not going to want to ruin your outfits before you even get there! Chat with your photographer about where he/she thinks your session will be before you start shopping!

So I’m a planner! I’ve had our outfits for this year’s Christmas card planned since last February! ( I am not ashamed of that 😉 ) I’m linking my all-time favorite shops that I go to first, and most of the time is where I snag all our outfits for our own photo sessions!

Okay ladies, some of these you might have heard me talk about before, but that’s just because they are SO good!! These shops have great prices, fast shipping and quality clothing! I recommend ordering at least a month before your session if ordering online! This gives you time to exchange sizes just in case the first shipment didn’t fit so great!

For the Babies
This is the fun part for me! These are my all-time FAVORITE kids clothing stores and boutiques! I’ve ordered from these places more than once and have NEVER been dissatisfied! I will also link the stores I buy our accessories like bows and bow ties!

LAST MINUTE OUTFITS
We’ve ALL been there! Myself, more than once! I forget about a shoot I scheduled for our fam, I put off the shopping too long, or I just can’t find anything I like! These are the shops you can easily walk into and find something for EVERYONE! No online shipping, no hoping it fits or the colors match perfectly. You go in, you grab what you need, and your done! It’s easy, cheap and if done well, will look just as great as all the online shops!
