We’re all about honesty here, so let’s be real…wedding planning is HARD!! By the time you think you’ve got it all under control, a million other little details pop up that you never even thought of! One of those details may be your engagement session! This happens before the wedding day, but is such a crucial time for you, your fiancé AND your photographer!

This is like the opening act for the main event! These images might go on your Save The Dates, or heck even your actual invitations. They will most likely be displayed all over your social media platforms, and get friends, family and your next door neighbor excited for your wedding day that is right around the corner! It’s supposed to be fun, care-free and relaxing! But without some thoughtful prepping, your engagement session could be a total bust, and that is the LAST thing you and your photographer want!

 First of all, if you’re on the fence about even having an engagement session, we are here to tell you… DO IT!!! We include a complimentary engagement session for each and every one of our brides and grooms! For us, its just THAT IMPORTANT! We think it’s beneficial to have our couples in front of our camera before the wedding day! It relieves some stress, it allows our couples to see how we pose and work together, and it’s just a genuinely fun time where we get to know each other and become great friends!!

Now that we’ve convinced you to have an engagement session,  lets talk details!!

WHAT THE HECK DO I WEAR?!?!

This can be quite intimidating and a tad overwhelming, so let us give you a few tips when you go to pick your outfits!

1. Bring Three Outfits! We encourage our couples to bring three different outfits for more variety in their gallery, as well as more photos! We say 2 casual and at least 1 dressy! ( and when we say dressy, we mean a dress and a tie! ) Sorry guys 😉
2. PINTEREST, PINTEREST, PINTEREST!  When picking your outfits, you don’t want to be too matchy matchy! Colors and patterns will clash and picking the right outfits that COORDINATE well together can make or break the look of your session! So we say go to pinterest! Type in the colors you want to wear and you will find board after board of inspiration outfits! SO EASY!!
3. Accessories Are Your Best Friend! Ladies, scarves, statement necklaces and adorable fun shoes are a sure way to make your session POP! Being bold is a good thing, and we encourage it ALL THE TIME!

CLEAN THE RING & EMPTY YOUR POCKETS

This is an easy one, friends! Before you arrive for your engagement session, make sure your ring is shiny and your  pockets are totally empty! You do not want cell phones, wallets and keys popping up in your pictures and everyone loves a shiny ring picture!!

Little tip: If you forget to go to the jewelers before your session, some of our brides have used windex to get a really shiny ring! Now we are not professional jewelers, so we definitely do NOT recommend you doing this ALL THE TIME, but just incase you happen to forget its a good quick fix!

BE ON TIME & ENJOY YOUR SELF

Last but not least, make sure you get to your session on time! The sun is only on our side for a window of time, and that window is when we need to capture those GORGEOUS shots!! The later you are, the less time we have to shoot! Enjoy this time! We give all of our couples a little “pep talk” before each engagement session! This is our job! We love our job, and we know your photographer does too! Trust them, get to know them, and when you get your gallery you’ll be swooning for months and months!!
